Plenty of schools can drill you through a test route. We're more interested in what happens the day after you pass — the first solo drive to work, the motorway in the rain, the multi-storey car park on a Saturday.
Every Steer Free lesson builds a skill you'll still be using in ten years. We keep groups of one: it's always you, your instructor, and a plan written around how you learn — whether that's your very first hour behind the wheel or a refresher after years away from the road.

Questions we hear every week
How many lessons will I need?
Everyone learns at a different pace. Most new drivers need somewhere around 40–45 hours of professional tuition, often alongside private practice. After your first couple of lessons we'll give you an honest, personal estimate — never a sales pitch.
Do you teach in my part of Birmingham or Solihull?
We cover Solihull, Shirley, Olton, Hall Green, Acocks Green, Yardley, Sheldon, Kings Heath, Moseley, Sparkhill, Small Heath and most surrounding areas. If your postcode isn't listed, just ask — we can usually help.
Can I learn in an automatic car?
Yes. We teach in both manual and automatic dual-controlled cars. Automatic is a great option if you want a simpler drive or find gears stressful; manual gives you a licence that covers both.
I'm a nervous driver — is that a problem?
Not at all. Many of our learners come to us anxious, or after a bad experience elsewhere. Lessons are calm and unhurried, we never shout, and we build up at a pace you're comfortable with.
What's your cancellation policy?
We ask for 48 hours' notice to move or cancel a lesson so the slot can be offered to someone else. If something genuinely urgent comes up, talk to us — we'll always try to be fair.
Do you offer intensive courses?
Yes — if you have a deadline, we can build a fast-track plan of longer, more frequent lessons and help you line up your theory and practical tests to match.
